Master of Public Health (MPH) Program
The goal of the Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) program is to prepare students to be effective public health professionals. The M.P.H. degree is a 45 credit program that includes a core curriculum and specializations in epidemiology, health administration and policy, or social and behavioral health.

Pre-requisites for the MPH program include statistics and diseases processes. Any undergraduate or graduate statistics course can be taken to meet the statistics pre-requisite. Students who have not completed a course in disease processes, pathophysiology, or a related course must complete a 1-credit course “Introduction to Disease Processes” offered online.
MPH Epidemiology Concentration (Total credits required for degree
=45)
Epidemiology, the fundamental science underlying public
health, is the study of the distribution and determinants of health, disease,
injuries, and disability in populations. The epidemiology concentration is
designed for students seeking to acquire skills necessary for careers in
descriptive and analytic epidemiology. Students enrolled in this area of
emphasis will acquire the methodologic skills necessary to study a wide range of
public health issues including: infectious disease, chronic disease, health care
delivery, social and behavioral health, environmental health, and occupational
health. Concentration courses emphasize basic and advanced epidemiologic
principles and their application to current problems in public health and
related disciplines. Students in the epidemiology concentration are expected to
use appropriate methods to plan, implement, and conduct epidemiologic research.
Students are also expected to critically evaluate research methodology to assess
validity and potential sources of bias. Students receive applied analysis
training using common statistical packages and opportunities to analyze,
interpret, and disseminate the results of epidemiologic investigations.
